David Pascoe accused five powerful corporations of criminal misconduct before the State Grand Jury.

Pascoe convinced the Grand Jury there was probable cause to pursue criminal charges.

Then Pascoe used that threat of prosecution to make a deal.

Pay a total of $352,000, and the cases go away.

Each corporation paid Pascoe’s office between $32,000 and $100,000 for so-called “Corporate Integrity Agreements.” In return, Pascoe agreed not to prosecute.

No charges.

No trial.

No admission of guilt.

No accountability.

Just pay the money and walk away.

If these corporations really committed crimes, why were they allowed to buy their way out?

South Carolina law did not authorize this. There was no statute giving Pascoe the power to take money for his office in exchange for not prosecuting people or corporations he claimed had committed crimes.

The South Carolina Supreme Court did not just criticize Pascoe’s conduct. It reprimanded him, rejected his authority to run this kind of arrangement, forced him to surrender the money, and ordered a full accounting. The Attorney General’s Office later reviewed the scheme and called the agreements illegal.

So what was it?

A shakedown, threatening prosecutions to squeeze money out of corporations?

Or a payoff, letting powerful corporations walk away from alleged criminal conduct?

Either way, it is not justice.

It was David Pascoe’s pay-to-play justice.

David Pascoe has NEVER prosecuted a Democrat for corruption.

He lies about it, and can’t give you a single example. When the corruption trail leads to Democrats, he suddenly gets quiet.

In fact, SLED is investigating Rep. Gilda Cobb-Hunter, one of the most powerful Democrats in the South Carolina House, over taxpayer money flowing to a nonprofit she runs.

Her nonprofit, CASA Family Systems, receives $350,000 a year through a state budget proviso for the “Community Advocacy Program in the First Judicial Circuit,” where Pascoe serves as solicitor.

Cobb-Hunter personally earns more than $130,000 a year from the organization.

Tax dollars funneled through Pascoe’s own circuit.

So did Pascoe know?

Did he miss it?

Or did he just not want to ask hard questions about a powerful Democrat ally?

Any answer is a problem.

The self-proclaimed corruption fighter continues to either ignore Democratic corruption, miss Democratic corruption, or look the other way while it happens in his own backyard.

That is not anti-corruption.

That is selective justice.
